The Awkward Book Excitation

Today will be another hot weather, at least from what it seemed; or probably I'll be talking about a different kind of hot matter or something to that effect but who's speculating?

It was past 6 am, I glanced at the window of my brother's apartment in Manila (of which I'm staying for the mean time while I look for work or something interesting to do with my life :D ). So I just lie there, on the bed thinking, what in the hell should I do today? Half-asleep I scrambled to get my cellphone, there was no message. A friend and colleague of mine, Mitch is still flat on her bed sleeping nearby. So I close my eyes instead.

Hours later, I jerked from my bed. My eyes half open checking the time from my cellphone, it was past 7 am I think and as I was closing my eyes, I heard someone flipping some pages. It was Mitch reading my journal and I was like saying shit to myself in panic. It was funny how I keep questioning Mitch what was the last page that she read. (haha) I was just being paranoid or whatever. Anyways, I think she read some general stuff and a little bit of my private notes -- if she probably had gone through a couple of pages more then I think I may have panicked the whims out of me -- so with her reading the first few pages was just fine, I guess. (lol)

So thereafter I showed her some of the things I've written before, like a few of my fave quotes and lines, and a few of Lacigreen's vlogs (see other links at the right); then we ate breakfast till we decided to head out: for I am helping her to get to that place somewhere near Pedro Gil, after that we'd go our separate ways come Cubao.

Then, I was in Cubao, alone, walking, thinking whether to buy shoes, or buy my anti-asthma meds, check some books or go to Greenhills instead or rather head to POEA to pass my resume. After numerous debates inside my head, my excitation of books won over. I exited the mall and went to National Bookstore near Gateway. I easily went to the second floor, I titteringly in ajoy to see that I'm still familiar with the place. I hurriedly went to the young adult section, next the classic books aisle, then the local books, and the non-fiction.

To tell you honestly, its been months since I went to a book store. And I was particularly looking for these for several months now (here's the list):
  1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by S. Chbosky (I want the old edition) >> new print editions are only what's available, the one where the movie casts are on the cover (Emma Watson/Logan Lerman)
  2. The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (I prefer the old edition too)
  3. Fingersmith by Sarah Waters
  4. Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

But then since I wasn't able to find the kind of books I was looking for, I just kept on checking new books and some interesting ones too. This time I noticed something. . .I bet everyone knew about Fifty Shades of Grey since there's been alot of media hype about that book being read by alot of females. And for some reason it is the most talked about feature for quite a time now. Like for some awkward fascination of the way some people read this in almost everywhere, as in, like in public places or online to name a few, like yeah, you might be JUST reading a book, it may seem okay (to the un-discerning viewer that is) but really? Girl, don't you know you're reading porn! lol.

I don't wanna rant about Fifty Shades, but what I'm trying to say is that the book is one of the most popular book nowadays. And what I really wanted to say (of which I instantly noticed) is when I was randomly checking books today. . .that there were some NEW books of the same theme as Fifty Shades and to make it even more obvious I saw one book that has this tagline on the front that say (not the exact line), 'Better than Fifty Shades' (or something to that effect). And I was like, really? New books riding the fame of Fifty Shades of Grey? Isn't that way too lame or what?

Anyways, what irked me the most, is when I found these classic books like the Jane Austen novels (see pic above) that are turned in to porn-like books; pegged as "The Wild and Wanton Edition" (which I don't know what that means). Case in point, I'm recently reading the classic novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, and in finding that such classic novel were re-written but with another certain author -- coining these classics with some words of porn and erotic paraphrases, just makes it seem unnecessary. It's abit crude! ! ! And it's ridiculous that I couldn't even think of such differently and that I couldn't even look at my own copy of Jane Eyre without the thought of such blasphemy and to how or what dubious reason they're doing these things on classic novels as such. They are utterly insane!

Next thing you know. . .you'll find other great classic novels like Great Expectations, The Time Machine, Jekyll and Hyde, Anne of Green Gables, Heidi, Robin Hood, Three Musketeers, The Man in the Iron Mask with their very own porn versions and erotic fantasy discourse. And all I can say is, just Great. Awesome! I probably should thank these people for turning up the heat, in every way possible. Geez, my head hurts now.

I also went inside Fully Booked, and I think if you're in a search for a certain book I'd prefer this store instead of NBS, hence their books are neatly cataloged and the shelves are arranged by author which makes it easier to find and is pretty much makes the search less painful. I bought two Pretty Little Liars book thereafter and happily made reservations for the other series. Fully Booked is awesome!

Disclaimer: No untoward books were thrown or burned thereafter. Just a little spit or spat or something. Kidding.

Currently Watching: Remember Sunday (TV Film 2013)

Note: As I was searching for a new Idology video of ENTV about the Idol finale I stumbled on this instead. . . . 50 Shades of WTF by Lacigreen :D
Glad I've seen this video. I have no intention of reading FSoG but in this vlog, Lacigreen made an interesting info about FSoG and BDSM so if you've read the book or thinking of buying one, watch this first and then decide if you may. TC~
